Episode 1
This is the first video in the concept art playbook series. It’s intended to be very ‘hands on’, and not to be binge watched.
Each video offers a specific homework challenge where you’ll learn concept art skills by working within narrow limitations. Today’s assignment is the most open-ended of the bunch, and will serve as a nice warm-up for the series. Have fun!
Episode 2
The enemy design brief has been updated! Whether you modify your first draft, or take a fresh start, your enemy design has a new set of requirements it needs to meet.
Instead of drawing, this homework focuses on dissecting the written brief. You’ll be challenged to convert dense paragraphs into clear, simple, priorities to sketch.
Episode 3
The last homework resulted in a short, written, list. How do we turn that into a compelling drawing? Today we practice attaching meaningful shapes to these functional requirements - creating visual synthesis.
If you’ve ever wondered ‘where good ideas come from’, this technique is a fundamental skill to learn.
Episode 4
Today we’ll wrap up the enemy design. Hopefully you’ve been creating thoughtful solutions toRyan’s tricky challenges. Sometimes, though, the rules change without warning. Today’s video challenges you to be flexible.
